Sustainable Wine

Certified Italian wines with high added value

SUSTAINABLE WINE – Certified Italian wines with high added value is an integrated supply chain programme dedicated to the sustainability and competitiveness of the Italian wine sector.

The project was created to support companies in moving towards a model in which environmental, social and economic sustainability become an integral part of business management and can be measured, certified and communicated transparently.

From declared sustainability to certified sustainability

At the heart of SUSTAINABLE WINE is the implementation of a Sustainability Management System.

Companies are supported in integrating the principles of sustainable development into their organisation and production processes through the adoption of the Equalitas SOPD Standard or the VIVA Programme.

Sustainability thus becomes a planned business strategy, integrated into production processes, assessed through indicators and, finally, validated by third parties.

A model integrating environmental, economic and social dimensions

SUSTAINABLE WINE adopts a multidimensional approach to sustainability. The standards applied take into account good practices in the vineyard, those relating to winemaking, bottling and packaging, and environmental impact indicators, as well as socio-economic aspects such as worker safety and rights and the way companies communicate their results.

A supply chain built around a shared message

SUSTAINABLE WINE involves 11 direct beneficiaries, all signatories to the Supply Chain Agreement. The companies are united by a common pathway that includes production investments, the adoption of sustainability systems, certification and promotion. The project therefore aims to build a supply chain capable of conveying a shared message based not on generic claims, but on measurable performance and recognised certifications.

Cooperation among the companies also makes it possible to share experiences and best practices and to strengthen commercial synergies among producers from different territories and denominations.

A multi-regional programme

SUSTAINABLE WINE has an expected duration of 79 months and covers Veneto, Trentino-Alto Adige, Lombardy, Piedmont and Sicily, with total eligible expenditure of approximately €48.5 million, excluding VAT.
